From the start, I knew I wanted to create a shared experience that would start conversations between people,  about technology. During our class brainstorming exercises and ideation work in my journal, I kept coming back to creating an installation that viewers could interact with and that incorporated my love of music. I was especially inspired by the Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. Finally I settled on building an enclosed space with mirrors, lights and sound. I decided to call it The Box.

These are the step that took the longest. I could not start the construction of the box until I had completely planned it out. This stage included making material lists,  budgeting the project, figuring out who I need assistance from, what other resources I might need, establishing a construction area , and figuring out the time frame. I also knew that because I wanted original music to be a part of this work, that it would take some time. The music I created needed to reflect the feelings I was trying to recreate. By using many synths and deep bass noises, I was able to achieve the affect I wanted.

An important stage of this project was asking for and being granted a mentorship with TJ Kalaniopio, the Director of Facilities at my school. He assisted me initially with determining what my logistics were. Throughout my whole journey, money was the biggest problem, however I reached out to many different sources on campus and off. I was fortunate to have many materials donated.  After I had done the research and followed his advice to locate the vendor / prices and other material sources, he worked with me to adjust my design and begin construction.

Our plan during Spring Break was to finalize the construction -  finishing the exterior frame, and installing drywall,  mirrors, mirrors, speakers, a working door and LED lights. The final step would be to install The Box at the exhibition location.  And then...global pandemic. Suddenly I was unable to go back to campus to get all my materials to finish the last step! My Capstone  teacher asked us to rescope and re-envision how we could present our ideas. I realized that a online web space would be the perfect vessel for communicating the ideas that I could not physically create. I would be able to showcase the work I had already done, while

The last part of my project involved presenting my work to my peers and other guests. I created a slideshow to go through my process, challenges, and the purpose of my project.
