The Artist Statement and Background

The Box is a time-based multimedia installation that consists of an enclosed built environment, surrounding interior mirrors, LED lights and sound recordings. To experience the work, viewers are offered the opportunity to shut themselves into the structure for 1:27 (Is there a reason for this time other than length of music), surrounded by multiple views of their own image.
My goal with The Box is to mirror the shared experience of teenagers growing up in the 20th century, intertwined with technology, connected to each other every second if they want to be, and surrounded by images of themselves and each other. My hope is that this work would start conversations about technology and society and how that affects the way people see themselves, as well as the influence it has over teenagers
